Broken Connections
My greatest fear
was always
. . . make that
is still
that I will not
be able to call for help
(perhaps it is because) I was
always coddled as a child
and rarely had to
care for myself.
My greatest fear
was not
. . . make that
is now
that I will not
be able to call for help
(perhaps that is because) I now
think I do not know enough
am not strong enough
to care for you.
My other greatest fear
was always
. . . make that
is still
that I will not
be able to say goodbye
(perhaps it is because) I never
got to say goodbye
to the two of them
and wish I had.
My other greatest fear
was not
. . . make that
is now
that I will not
hear you say goodbye
(perhaps it is because) I heard
nine eleven
goodbyes
again and again
and wish I had not.

One nice deed begets another. Please, don't copy these words. I hold them too close to my heart. Link if you wish, so these fears are credited as mine, not yours. I would hate to confuse your mind or that of your readers.
